Red Sox Almanac Items Page from Year 2005

 January 3rd

Harry Frazee, owner of the Boston Red Sox, sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees on this day in 1920.  A Turkish stamp postmarked that very day is an appropriate commemoration, for there are crescent moons in its upper left and right hand corners--and the Curse of the Bambino finally came to a definitive end during a total eclipse of the moon in October 2004.

November 18th, 2004

During the 27th total lunar eclipse after the day Daniel Ortiz was born, Red Sox fans could finally rejoice that

                                     The Curse is 86'd!

Daniel Ortiz, the ALCS MVP, was born exactly 27 Total Lunar Eclipses ago, on November 18, 1975.  Yes, there was a total lunar eclipse that night, just as on October 27, 2004 during the triumphant Game 4 of the World Series.  Here is a stamp postmarked in Red Sox Nation on that wonderful day:

And here are a few more Red Sox birthday postmarks, starting with one for Dave Roberts, whose successful base steal marked the exact moment the tides shifted in Boston's favor late in Game 4 of the ALCS--he was born in Okinawa, Japan on May 31, 1972.

May 31, 1972 in Japan was May 30th in the Americas, and that very day the World Series MVP, Manny Ramirez was born in the Dominican Republic.  So here's a Japan postmark find which honors the birth of both of these Red Sox champions:

                                                       30th of May 1972

And now a serendipity postmark for Curt Schilling, traded to the Red Sox in late '03 from the Phoenix-based Arizona Diamondbacks.

His birthdate is, you guessed it, November 14, 1966.
